Compression springs

Compression springs are in their natural state in an extended position. The spring force is activated by compressing the spring, which then seeks to return to its original position. There are countless types, differing in diameter, number of coils, length and material. Compression springs are used in vehicles as shock absorbers, in ballpoint pens, in push-button switches, etc.

The die spring is a special type of compression spring, specifically developed as a standardised compression spring to absorb high loads. The standard and manufacturer are crucial in the production of die springs, as different manufacturers use their own specific colour codes.

The most commonly used materials are:

  • Naturally hardened spring steel wire (EN10270-1 / Din 17223-1)
  • Oil hardened spring steel wire (EN10270-2 VD&FD / Din 17223 sheet 2)
  • Hot rolled spring steel wire (EN89-71 50CrV4)
  • Stainless steel spring wire AISI 302 (EN10270-3-1.4310 / Din 17224-1)
  • Stainless steel spring wire AISI 316 (EN10270-3-1.4401 / Din 17224-1)
  • Phosphor bronze (EN1654 CuSn6 / Din 17662/17682/2076)
  • Nickel alloy wire (Inconel, Haseloy en Nimonic)

Manufacturing is carried out according to DIN standard DIN 2095.
